SCGP joins forces with Chulalongkorn University to develop an innovative mask ‘CUre AIR SURE’ – designed with care to provide safety for health professionals. In cooperation with SCG Foundation, 10,000 masks will be given to front-line health workers.

Professor Bundhit Eua-arporn, Ph.D., President of Chulalongkorn University, says the COVID-19 pandemic and the deteriorating air quality make air filtration technologies a necessity for the new-normal way of life. Fully realizing its significance, Chulalongkorn University intends to contribute to the health security of the Thai people and has collaborated with private-sector partners in the design and development of the “CUre AIR SURE” respirator mask, an innovative filtration equipment to protect wearers against particulate matter and infectious particles.

He adds that SCGP as well as organizations, such as the Division of Innovation Industrial Technology Development, the Department of Industrial Promotion, and the Plastics Institute of Thailand, have lent their support. They have collaborated with researchers from Chulalongkorn’s Faculty of Engineering, Metallurgy and Materials Science Research Institute, and Faculty of Medicine to develop the half respirator mask of high quality that is capable of filter out 99% of bacteria and small particulates using filter layers meeting the Medical Face Mask ASTM F2100 Level 1 standard.

Mr. Wichan Jitpukdee, Chief Executive Officer, SCG Packaging Public Company Limited, SCGP, says that SCGP has played a role in the design and production of the respirator mask through its design for society program. The company contributes its expertise in design and production with high performance and polymer materials to come up with masks that fit the facial characteristics of Thai people so that they are comfortable to wear and equipped with replaceable filters that provide efficient protection against germs and particulate matter.

Ms. Suvimol Chivaluk, Director and Manager of SCG Foundation, expresses concerns for the Thai people who are facing a treacherous situation because of the rapid spread of the coronavirus which has infected a large number of people in recent months. The foundation wishes to play a part in helping Thailand to quickly overcome the current crisis. The foundation has assisted health professionals, patients and people affected by the infection in all 77 provinces throughout the country with innovations and technologies.

Moreover, SCGP has contributed financial assistance to make it possible for SCG Foundation to donate 10,000 CUre AIR SURE masks to health professionals and front-line workers in more than 100 hospitals through its network of members throughout the country.

Meanwhile, SCGP is committed to paying special interest to environmental protection and social justice as well as upholding the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles of sustainability. The company has expressed readiness to cooperate with any social organizations or networks to design and develop social innovations with the hope that it will lead to helping Thailand overcome the current challenges it faces.
